Katey Sagal
An extremely gifted, versatile performer
adept in both drama and comedy, actress/singer Katey Sagal became a household
name in the 1980s as the fabulously brazen, undomesticated Peg Bundy in the
long-running Fox series Married... with Children (1987). During the show's
lengthy run, she received nominations for three Golden Globes as well as two
American Comedy Award. Peg Bundy may be well-known, but Katey was determined to
keep her acting career even after the show ended. Katey starred in other sitcoms
and also in TV films. On Sons of Anarchy (2008), she played the role of Gemma
Teller Morrow. This was the Matriarch of the Hell's Angels-like California
biker group. She won the Golden Globe Award 2011 for her performance. Catherine
Louise Sagal was a child of Sara Zwilling, a director and singer, and Boris
Sagal - renowned television and film directors. The Los Angeles native began
performing at the age of 5 and then trained in acting and voice at the
California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California. She started her
career as a singing waitress in her "salad times" as well as
continuing to perform with "The Group with No Name." After that, she
was lucky enough to to hook up with Gene Simmons (and his 1970s rock group
KISS) and was able to secure an offer to work. She gained valuable experience
while performing as a backup singer to Simmons, Etta Jones, Tanya Tucker, and
Olivia Newton-John. She also sang live with Bette Midler as one of Bette's
"Harlettes," in Bette’s avant-garde stage productions.
