Pollyanna McIntosh
Pollyanna McIntosh is a native of
Scotland. She was born in Portugal, Colombia and then returned to Scotland.
This is when she started performing on stage at The Edinburgh Festival. At the
age of 16, she moved to London and was soon involved in the indie filmmaking
(her first pay-per-view was as an actor in Irvine Welsh's The Acid House
(1998)) and theatre acting, both as an actor and director. In 2004, she
relocated to Los Angeles to direct "The Woolgatherer" an original
play which Anne Dudek (a regular guest on Mad Men (2007)/Big Love (2006)) was
the director. The play was praised by critics. Then she landed her first US
film role, playing the manipulative, born-again Christian, "Stacy",
in Headspace (2005). She was then cast as "Thumper Wint", a rebellious,
born-again Christian in Sex and Death 101 (2006) (Simon Baker/Winona Rider) as
played by Heathers (1988). The critics were impressed with her unique mix of
the power of sexuality and the irreverent comedy. The actress was in LA as well
as London, Exam (2009) was her next project, nominated by BAFTA for Outstanding
British Debut and winner of Best Independent at the Santa Barbara Film Fest,
the reviewers noted that Pollyanna's performance was "smart, sassy and
sexy equally ....the emotional center of the film" praised her capacity to
identify the "emotional vulnerability" of her seemingly tough and
ambitious character. GQ simply said "stunning Pollyanna McIntosh is an
enormously skilled actress". Como Quien No Quiere La Cosa (2013) (As if
you Don't Like it! ) is an South American comedy in which she is the unhappy
wife of Trevor Lock, a Brit comedian. She is fluent in Spanish throughout the
film, that was made in Peru. John Landis directed Burke and Hare (2010). She is
Isla Fisher's bestie with Andy Serkis and Jessica Hynes, Tom Wilkinson, Tim
Curry and Tom Wilkinson. Lucky McKee's The Woman (2011), which she played the
main role , was praised by critics at Sundance 2011. It also won the New York
Times' readers top film poll. For her work, she was awarded three Best Actress
awards, including Total Film's Frightfest Award and Fright Meter's.
