Pom Klementieff
Pom Klementieff is a French actress was
born on 3 May 1986. She studied at the Cours Florent drama academy in Paris.
Her roles include Loup (2009) and Sleepless Night (2011). She is the voice of
Mantis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
(2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). Pom
Klementieff was the daughter of two parents: a Korean mother, and her father
was French-Russian. Her father was a consul of Quebec City, Canada. Eugene
Klementieff, a painter was her grandfather. Her parents chose the name
"Pom" because it is identical in pronunciation to Korean words for
"spring" and "tiger". Klementieff lived for a year in
Canada prior to moving her family around extensively due to her father's job. Before
moving to France the family resided in Japan and on the Ivory Coast. Her
father, who passed away at the age of 5 from cancer was also her mother. Also,
she was suffering from schizophrenia and couldn't care for her kids.
Klementieff was raised with her aunt and paternal uncle. Her uncle, whom she
called "like her father", died at 18 years old. The older brother of
Klementieff who committed suicide years later, was her aunt. Klementieff
briefly went to law school following the loss of her uncle's in order to please
her aunt, however she didn't find the profession option attractive. She also
worked as a waitress in France and a salesperson. She began acting when was
just 19 at the Cours Florent theatre school in Paris. In the early stages of
her education, she won an award for theater that granted her classes for two
years with some of the best teachers. Klementieff was first to act
professionally in the independent French film Apres lui (2007). She played the
role of the step-daughter of the lead character, Catherine Deneuve. Three days
were spent on filming her scenes. During one scene, Klementieff was supposed to
push someone down the stairs but accidentally fell her way down the stairs, and
director Gael Morel filmed that scene for the final film. Her debut lead role
came in Loup (2009), a French film about a tribe of reindeer herders located in
the Siberian mountains. Klementieff was filming in a camp hours away from the
nearest village. The camp was where temperatures plunged to zero.
