ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born to Pamela Morgan (age 30), and Michael Morgan on July 2 1989. They raised her along with her sisters, Jeni and Jeri, in the Los Angeles suburb of Diamond Bar. Morgan played a variety of games as a child but only began to play soccer at the age of 14. Morgan joined the Cypress Elite club team and came first in the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship. She also placed third place in the bracket for under-19 players. Morgan continued to hone her soccer skills at Diamond Bar High School. Morgan was selected as an All-American Athlete by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). She was also a participant of the Olympic Development Program (ODP) regional and state divisions. Morgan advanced her soccer skills at UC Berkeley, where she led the California Golden Bears team in scoring since the beginning of her season. She was instrumental in taking the team to the NCAA Tournament every year and twice in the second round. Morgan was one of the four finalists in the Honda Sports Award. She was also the first Hermann Trophy finalist from her school. Morgan finished her degree in 2010 with the third highest number of goals and points at Berkeley. Morgan was a soccer player at the collegiate and national level throughout her college. Morgan suffered an ACL injury in her first year as an Berkeley player. She was unable play for the U.S. Under-20 Women's Soccer team until April 2008. In Mexico Morgan scored her first international soccer goal at the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan was also part of the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup where she scored four goals and winning her team the gold medal, in addition to other accolades.Morgan was then recruited by the senior national team in which she was substituted and scored a number of important goals. One of them was a win goal against Italy that earned the U.S. a place in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player in the team and was the one to lead it to victory against France. While the U.S. ultimately lost to Japan, Morgan became the first ever player to record both a goal and an assist in the final World Cup game.
